Healthy Soil Biology at Luscious Apple Orchard

Biggest Worms I’ve ever seen in Canada

I’m here at Harry Burtons Luscious Apple orchard and he’s got some of the healthiest soil I’ve ever seen. Harry has a beautiful Organic Apple orchard with over 200 Varieties of Heirloom apples on Salt Spring Island, BC.

One way we can measure soil health is the percentage of organic matter. This orchard scored a 15% organic matter (OM) content on a recent soil test. Another way we can measure the quality of soil is by checking the soil biology. Number of worms per square foot of soil. Doing a quick test, we can see that this clay based soil has some of the biggest worms I’ve ever seen in my life! Check out Harry Burton’s Luscious Apple Orchard here.
