Building the Permaculture Gardens at “The Root”

 In conservation, food-forests, Portfolio

We participated in a community project at The Root on Salt Spring Island. The Root is a local food community center dedicated to food sustainability and permaculture. The Root is a facility that will include a processing kitchen and temperature-controlled storage for local food. The Seed bank also operates out of the Root Property.

Megan and I participated in a community project to help build and plant the root permaculture demonstration garden. The project was led by Sheila Dobie and Moe Wendt. This is a great example of bringing challenging soil back to life with a diverse cover crop mix. Here are some pictures of the process of building the permaculture gardens at The Root.
